The study was conducted to examine the expressions of emotion in picture storybooks for early childhood. In the study, 91 picture storybooks for the early childhood group published between 2012 and 2020 constitute the sample. The data of this study were collected by creating the Picture Storybooks Content Analysis Form, which was developed by the researcher by reviewing the relevant literature and taking five expert opinions. The data were presented in the form of frequency distribution charts. As a result of the research, it was concluded that the picture storybooks analyzed included ten different emotions and that expressions of emotion were found both in the picture and in the text, and that expressions of emotion were mostly used in the home environment and outdoor environment, and least in the school environment. It was determined that most of the children’s picture books included strategies for coping with negative emotions, and the rate of including the emotional and physical characteristics of the characters was low. In addition, it was concluded that expressions of defining emotions appropriate to the developmental level of children and expressions to understand the emotions of others were almost non-existent, while expressing one’s own emotions was the majority.

Araştırma, erken çocukluk dönemine yönelik resimli öykü kitaplarındaki duygu ifadelerinin incelenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır. Çalışmada, 2012-2020 yılları arasında yayımlanan erken çocukluk dönemine yönelik 91 resimli öykü kitabı örneklemi oluşturmaktadır. Bu araştırmanın verileri araştırmacı tarafından ilgili literatür taranarak ve beş uzman görüşü alınarak geliştirilen Resimli Öykü Kitapları İçerik Analiz Formu oluşturularak toplanmıştır. Veriler frekans dağılım çizelgeleri şeklinde sunulmuştur. Araştırma sonucunda, incelenen resimli öykü kitaplarının on farklı duyguyu içerdiği ve duygu ifadelerinin hem resimde hem metinde olduğu; duygu ifadelerine en fazla ev ortamı ve dış ortamda, en az ise okul ortamında yer verildiği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Resimli öykü kitaplarının çoğunda olumsuz duygular ile baş etme stratejilerine yer verildiği, karakterlerin duygusal ve fiziksel özelliklerine yer verme oranının düşük olduğu belirlenmiştir. Bununla birlikte, çocukların gelişim düzeyine uygun duygu tanımlama ifadelerinin ve başkasının duygusunu anlamaya yönelik ifadelerin yok denecek kadar az, kendi duygularını ifade etmenin ise çoğunlukta olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
